Officials with Goochland, Va.,-based 3 Fellers bakery announced this week they will soon have gluten-free desserts available in the bakery section of Whole Foods grocery stores.
The gluten-free desserts available in a few weeks include two types of brownies, two types of mini pies and three varieties of specialty cupcakes.
"Our desserts look just as good and taste just as good – if not better – than non-gluten-free desserts," said Mike Feller, president of 3 Fellers, in a press release.
The Virginia-based company was started by Feller's mother in her own gluten-free kitchen in 2004 as an answer to members of the family living with celiac disease seeking a gluten-free diet, according to the release. She began fixing special gluten-free meals for friends and family, and then opened a bakery in the Richmond suburb in 2007.
While the bakery still serves local customers, the company has since turned its sights more toward its wholesale business. It features products in the frozen foods or bakery sections of some grocery store chains, as well as some local organic and natural specialty food stores.
